Italian Migrants of Ryde

A One-Way Ticket: Italian Migrants in the City of Ryde (1860 - 1960) is a landmark community history project curated by Angelina Bonifacio, documenting the lives, struggles, resilience and achievements of Italian migrants who helped shape the Ryde district of Sydney across a century of settlement.

Through personal testimonies, family histories and rare photographs, the anthology preserves an important chapter of Australia's multicultural heritage, honouring the courage of those who left Italy in search of opportunity.

As one of the writers, I worked closely with contributing families to transform memories and family archives into compelling life stories. My role involved capturing individual voices with authenticity and sensitivity, ensuring that the experiences of migrant pioneers and their descendants were preserved for future generations.
