FEMALE OF THE SPECIES

Interactive murder-mystery theatre doesn’t come more compelling than Female of the Species, a locally produced play performed in a secret location in the quiet backstreets of Balmain.

BODY WORLDS

Efforts to understand the structure and mechanisation of the human body are hardly new. For centuries, medical practitioners have been illustrating, dissecting, preserving and presenting the body in numerous ways, from cabinet curiosities in private collections to medical museums accessible to the public. Stemming from this tradition is the Body Worlds exhibition, currently showing at Sydney Town Hall.

WORD ON THE STREET

Street libraries are a window into the cultural and social heart of a community. They are charming homes for books, planted in front lawns, parks, outside schools and just about anywhere that’s accessible by the public. Writer Maria Zarro grabs her literary magnifying glass and goes searching for the best in the Inner West.

SYDNEY BUS MUSEUM

The polished double decker buses of Sydney’s bygone era don’t only exist in Harry Potter stories. Maria Zarro talks to volunteers Duncan MacAuslan and David Griffiths from the Sydney Bus Museum about its role in preserving the city’s public transport heritage.

ZINE CULTURE IN THE INNER WEST

With the buzz surrounding this month's Zine Fairs, it’s an ideal time to unearth the Inner West’s dynamic self-publishing scene. Maria Zarro talks to zine legends and long-time Inner Westies Vanessa Berry and Chris Mikul about this often-overlooked part of the Inner West’s creative landscape.
